Overview

The Gayer-Anderson Museum (Bayt al-Kritliyya, 'House of the Cretan Woman') joins two mansions built in 1540 and 1632 into one of Cairo's finest surviving residential buildings, filled with Islamic art and antiques collected by British officer Robert Gayer-Anderson, who lived here from 1935 to 1942. Highlights include interiors blending Ottoman, Mamluk, and Persian styles, ornate mashrabiya lattice windows, and a rooftop terrace - the house was also a filming location for the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me.
