Overview
Just outside Cairo, the Giza plateau holds ancient Egypt's greatest monuments and the last surviving wonder of the ancient world. The 146-meter Great Pyramid of Khufu rises alongside the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure and the watchful Sphinx, all set in the desert on the Nile's west bank. Built around 4,500 years ago, these massive stone structures show a precision that still challenges modern engineering. After dark, a sound-and-light show illuminates the pyramids with lasers and narration.
