Overview
Opened in 1997, this small specialist museum sits on the Nile Corniche just north of Luxor Temple. Displays cover the tools and materials of mummification, canopic jars, animal mummies, and painted coffins, with the well-preserved mummy of Masaharta, a 21st Dynasty High Priest of Amun, as the centerpiece. Compact enough to see in 20-30 minutes, and its air conditioning makes it a pleasant midday break from the heat. Admission is around EGP 140 for foreigners (subject to change). A 5-minute walk along the Corniche from Luxor Temple.
