Overview
On Luxor's west bank lies the royal cemetery of Egypt's New Kingdom (16th-11th centuries BC), where more than 60 pharaonic tombs have been uncovered, Tutankhamun's among them. Narrow corridors lead into burial chambers where vivid wall paintings and hieroglyphs survive in remarkable condition after thousands of years. Tutankhamun's tomb, discovered by Howard Carter in 1922, requires a separate ticket and dazzles visitors with the richness of its grave goods.
