Overview
Built by Emperor Shah Jahan in 1656, Jama Masjid is India's largest mosque, with a vast courtyard that holds 25,000 worshippers at once. Three grand gates of red sandstone and white marble, two 40m minarets, and striped domes dominate the structure. Climbing the south minaret rewards you with panoramic views of Old Delhi's crowded lanes and the Red Fort. Free entry (minaret INR 300; camera fee INR 300). 5-minute walk from Jama Masjid Station (Metro Violet Line).
