Overview
Purana Qila ("Old Fort") was built in the 16th century by Mughal emperor Humayun and Afghan ruler Sher Shah Suri, believed to stand on the site of Indraprastha, the legendary city from the Hindu epic Mahabharata. Its red sandstone walls, three grand gates, the Qila-i-Kuhna Mosque, and the Sher Mandal library tower survive, and an evening sound-and-light show is held on site. Foreign visitor entry about INR 300.
