Overview
The Karen Blixen Museum is the colonial-era farmhouse where Danish author Karen Blixen (pen name Isak Dinesen) ran a coffee plantation from 1917 to 1931. Her autobiographical memoir 'Out of Africa' became the 1985 Hollywood film starring Meryl Streep and Robert Redford, and the museum preserves her original furniture, dishware, typewriter, and clothing. The gardens, set against the Ngong Hills, evoke early 20th-century colonial Kenya. The surrounding Karen neighborhood (named after her) is also home to famous restaurants like Carnivore and Talisman. Admission KES 1,200. About 30 minutes by car from downtown.
Opening Hours
Daily 09:30-18:00
Travel Tips
There's no Korean commentary - take the English guided tour (about 40 minutes, included). Don't miss a photo in the garden with the Ngong Hills behind. Pair the visit with a meal in the Karen neighborhood.
