Overview
Opened in 1929, the Nairobi National Museum is Kenya's largest museum, covering natural history, archaeology, ethnography, and contemporary art. Its most famous holding is the 'Turkana Boy', a nearly complete 1.6-million-year-old Homo erectus skeleton that is a cornerstone of human evolution research. Other highlights include more than 9,000 mounted bird specimens, ethnographic clothing and tools, and the on-site Snake Park, popular with families. Right in central Nairobi, it's easy to reach. Admission KES 1,200 (includes Snake Park). About 10 minutes by car from downtown.
Opening Hours
Daily 08:30-17:30
Travel Tips
Two to three hours is plenty; an English guided tour (about KES 500) is recommended. The on-site cafe is fine for a light lunch.
