Named after the Swahili word for 'freedom', Uhuru Park is Nairobi's flagship city-center park, opened in 1969 by President Jomo Kenyatta. It features a small lake with boating, walking paths, and lawns popular with locals, plus views of Parliament and the downtown skyline. The park has also been the symbolic site of many major rallies in Kenyan political history.
