Overview
Karura Forest is a 1,041-hectare urban forest reserve in northern Nairobi, saved from development in the 1990s and 2000s through campaigns led by Nobel laureate Wangari Maathai. Its trails wind past a waterfall, caves once used by Mau Mau fighters, and a bamboo forest, while cyclists, joggers, and picnicking families make full use of the well-maintained paths. It offers a rare escape into nature just minutes from downtown Nairobi.
