Overview
Maafushi's main street runs about 600 m east-west across the island, lined with local hotey cafes, sundry shops, mosques, a school, and a small museum — the best place to glimpse daily Muslim life. Painted houses and palms create a colorful scene, and children offer friendly greetings everywhere. In the evening, hotey cafes serve sai (tea) and hedhikaa (fried snacks) for easy interaction with locals. Free to wander. A 5-minute walk from the guesthouse strip.
Opening Hours
Streets 24 hours (shops 07:00-22:00)
Travel Tips
Modest dress (shoulders and knees covered) is appreciated. A sai at a hotey costs under a dollar — instant cultural immersion.
