A local island packed with affordable guesthouses, popular for snorkeling and diving. Swimming at Bikini Beach, snorkeling on a white sandbank in the open ocean, and watching nurse sharks at Shark Point are Maafushi's three highlights. At roughly one-fifth of resort prices, it is the ideal way for backpackers and budget travelers to enjoy the Maldives' beautiful seas. The island is small enough to explore entirely on foot.
Best Season
Best in the dry season (November-April); manta ray sightings are most likely from January to April.
Budget
Daily budget around 50,000-120,000 KRW (guesthouses 30,000-60,000; food 20,000-30,000; activities 20,000-50,000).
Transport
From Male, the public ferry takes about 1 hour 30 minutes (runs Tue, Thu, Sat); a speedboat takes about 30 minutes. The island itself is walkable. Buy your SIM card at Male Airport in advance (Dhiraagu/Ooredoo, about USD 10-20/week). Cash (US dollars) is the main payment method; some guesthouses accept cards. Tipping is optional.

Korean passport holders may enter visa-free for 30 days (free visa on arrival issued automatically).
Safety
A very safe island, but outside Bikini Beach keep your body covered. Take care swimming in areas with strong currents.
