Overview
Laid out in 1257 and measuring roughly 200m on each side, Rynek Główny is Europe's largest medieval square. In the centre, the Cloth Hall (Sukiennice) sells Polish crafts and souvenirs, while its upper floor houses a 19th-century Polish painting gallery. Every hour, a trumpeter sounds the Hejnał from St. Mary's Basilica — a tradition honouring the 13th-century bugler shot mid-call during the Mongol invasion.
Opening Hours
Open 24 hours (Cloth Hall 10:00-20:00; basilica 11:30-18:00)
Travel Tips
Don't miss the hourly Hejnał trumpet call from St. Mary's. The gallery on the upper floor of the Cloth Hall is a lesser-known gem.
