Overview
Perched on a limestone hill overlooking the Vistula, Wawel Castle was home to Polish kings from the 14th to the 17th century. Highlights include the Renaissance arcaded courtyard, the Treasury displaying the crown jewels, and the royal apartments that once held Leonardo da Vinci's 'Lady with an Ermine'. Legend has it that a fire-breathing dragon lived in a cave below the castle — a dragon statue now stands on the riverbank in its honour.
