Overview
Opened in 2005, this is Porto's signature modern concert hall, designed by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas (OMA) in a striking polyhedral form. The white concrete crystal-like building, visible from a kilometer away, symbolized Porto's new era as European Capital of Culture in 2001 and made the New York Times list of the 100 most important buildings of the 21st century. The main shoebox-shaped hall features 7m gold-plywood walls and huge glass windows opening to the city, letting audiences enjoy concerts with the city as backdrop. Guided tours (about EUR 10) explore the interior, and daily classical and jazz concerts fill the calendar. Direct connection at Metro Casa da Música (Lines A/B/C/E/F).
