Overview
Designed in 1763 by Italian architect Nicolau Nasoni, this Portuguese Baroque masterpiece was Portugal's tallest building in the 18th century. Built as part of the Clérigos Church, the 76m tower has six levels and 240 spiral steps. From the top, a 360-degree panorama unfolds over Porto's red-tiled rooftops, the Douro River, Dom Luís I Bridge, and Vila Nova de Gaia. It once served as a landmark for sailors, and the adjacent church's Baroque altarpiece is also striking. Admission (including church and museum) about EUR 8. 5-minute walk from Metro D São Bento station.
