Overview
Completed in 1916, Porto's central train station is world-famous for the roughly 20,000 azulejo tiles adorning its hall. Painter Jorge Colaço spent 11 years creating the tile murals depicting Portuguese historical scenes — from the Conquest of Ceuta to King João I's entry into Porto — in striking blue and white. A working railway station that doubles as a work of art, it is often the starting point for exploring Porto. Free to visit. Directly at Metro D São Bento station.
