Overview
Kata and Karon sit side-by-side on Phuket's southwest coast, about 5 km south of Patong. Karon stretches roughly 3 km — Phuket's third-largest beach — with a long band of white sand and blue water, while Kata is smaller, cozier, and especially popular with families. Both transform into surf spots from May to October (great for beginners and intermediates), while in the dry season their calm waters are ideal for swimming and paddleboarding. Resorts, seafood restaurants, and night markets line the back of the beaches, keeping the area lively after sunset. Free entry. About 15 minutes by car from Patong.
Opening Hours

Travel Tips
Kata Noi at the southern end of Kata is even quieter. November-April is best for swimming; May-October for surfing. The Sunday night market in Kata Center is also worth checking out.
