Overview
At Phuket's southernmost tip, Promthep Cape is the island's most beloved spot to watch sunset over the Andaman Sea. The 60 m clifftop hosts an elephant shrine and the Rama IX Lighthouse, and as sunset approaches travelers from around the world gather to photograph the palms, sea, and offshore islets bathed in gold. The lighthouse holds a free maritime museum, and night-market stalls sell mango smoothies (about THB 60) and street snacks. Free entry. About 15 minutes by car from Rawai or 25 minutes from Kata Beach.
Opening Hours
24 hours (sunset 17:30-19:00 is the highlight)
Travel Tips
Arrive at least an hour before sunset to secure a spot — 17:30-18:30 is most crowded. Stick around after sunset for atmospheric night views.
