Overview
The cathedral rises where Padre San Vitores built Guam's first Catholic church in 1669; today's structure is the postwar rebuild, its white walls and bell tower sharp against the tropical sky. Inside stands Santa Marian Kamalen, Guam's patroness — an image legend says was found at sea, honored each December 8 with an island-wide procession. Steps from Plaza de España, it anchors the Old Hagåtña walk and explains much of this deeply Catholic island's identity.
