Overview
Built in 1891 by Sheikh Zayed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan to protect date palm farmers, Al Jahili Fort is one of the UAE's largest traditional forts, located within Al Ain's Castle Park. Both the fort and the permanent exhibition on explorer Wilfred Thesiger are free to visit. It is about a 1.5-hour drive from downtown Abu Dhabi to Al Ain.
