Overview
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque was built to honor Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE, and is one of the largest mosques in the world. It features 82 marble domes, 1,000 columns, the world's largest hand-knotted carpet (5,627 square meters), and seven grand chandeliers adorned with Swarovski crystals. The pure white marble building reflected in the surrounding pools creates a breathtaking sight. Free admission. About 20 minutes by taxi from the city center.
Travel Tips
Clothing must cover knees and arms, and women must wear a headscarf. The mosque is also stunning when lit up at night, so consider visiting after sunset.
