Overview
Built around 1185, Malahide Castle was home to the Talbot family for nearly 800 years until 1976, making it one of Ireland's longest continuously inhabited castles. The interior preserves 18th-19th century furniture and portraits, while the 260-acre grounds hold a botanic garden with some 5,000 plant species and Ireland's largest butterfly garden. Easily reached by train from central Dublin, it's a popular day trip. Admission about EUR 15 (castle + gardens). About 25 minutes by DART train from Connolly Station.
