Overview
Built in 1191, St Patrick's Cathedral is Ireland's largest cathedral, named for the legend that Ireland's patron saint baptized converts at a well on this site in the 5th century. At 91 meters long with a 43-meter spire, it's the country's biggest church. Jonathan Swift, author of Gulliver's Travels, served as Dean here from 1713 to 1745 and is buried inside. The Lady Chapel, hung with the flags, helmets, and armor of Irish regiments, makes a striking military memorial space. Admission about EUR 9. 10-minute walk from Dublin Castle.
