Ta Prohm

Angkor Archaeological Park, Siem Reap

Overview

Built in 1186 by Jayavarman VII in honor of his mother, Ta Prohm is a Buddhist temple known for the massive spung and banyan tree roots that have engulfed its walls. This otherworldly fusion of nature and architecture gained global fame as a filming location for 'Tomb Raider' in 2001. It has been deliberately left largely unrestored, preserving the look it had at rediscovery. Accessible with the Angkor Pass. About 10 minutes by tuk-tuk from Angkor Thom.

Opening Hours

Daily 07:30-17:30

Travel Tips

Arrive early for thinner crowds and a stronger atmosphere. Look up the main 'tree root' photo spots ahead of time.
