Overview
Built in the late 12th century by Jayavarman VII, Angkor Thom was the Khmer Empire's last capital - a 9 sq km walled city. At its heart, the Bayon temple's 216 colossal stone faces gaze in four directions, creating a mysterious atmosphere. The South Gate's naga balustrade with gods and demons depicts the Hindu creation myth of the Churning of the Ocean of Milk. Accessible with the Angkor Pass. About 10 minutes by tuk-tuk from Angkor Wat.
