Overview
Consecrated in 967 AD, Banteay Srei is a small but exquisite Hindu temple whose name means 'Citadel of the Women.' Unlike most Angkor monuments, it is built from a pinkish red sandstone, and its carvings are so delicate that legend says only a woman's hands could have made them. Lintels and pediments depicting Shiva and Vishnu myths, along with miniature shrine buildings, showcase the apex of Khmer sculpture. Accessible with the Angkor Pass. About 1 hour by tuk-tuk from Siem Reap (25 km north of Angkor Wat).
