Overview
Built in the 8th century during the Unified Silla period, Bulguksa is a masterpiece of Korean Buddhist art inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site alongside Seokguram. Highlights include the National Treasure pagodas Dabotap and Seokgatap and the elegant stone stairways of Cheongun-gyo and Baegun-gyo, offering distinct scenery in every season. Following the abolition of cultural-heritage entry fees, admission is now free, with hours typically 08:00-17:00 (varies seasonally). It is about 40 minutes from downtown Gyeongju by city bus 10 or 11.
Travel Tips
Pair it with Seokguram and visit in the morning. During autumn foliage, early morning is quieter and best for photos.
