Overview

Founded in 634 under Queen Seondeok of Silla, Bunhwangsa is an ancient temple especially famous for its brick-style stone pagoda (a National Treasure) built from stones cut to resemble bricks. It is regarded as the oldest surviving Silla stone pagoda and is well known as a temple where the monk Wonhyo stayed. Adult admission is around KRW 2,000, with hours generally 08:30-18:00 (shorter in winter). It is close to the Hwangnyongsa Temple site and the Gyeongju National Museum for a combined visit.
