Overview
Cheomseongdae is an astronomical observatory said to have been built in the 7th century under Queen Seondeok of Silla, the oldest surviving observatory in East Asia and a designated National Treasure. Its 362 granite bricks are precisely stacked into a bottle shape, and together with the wide lawns of the surrounding Daereungwon area it forms one of Gyeongju's signature scenes. As an open-air site, admission is free and it can be viewed 24 hours, though the illuminated night view is especially lovely. It connects on foot to Daereungwon and Hwangnidan-gil.

Dusk and night, when the lighting comes on, make for far better photos than daytime. Combine it on foot with nearby Daereungwon and Hwangnidan-gil.
