Overview

Standing 1,950m tall, Hallasan is South Korea's highest mountain and a symbol of Jeju, designated as both a UNESCO Natural Heritage Site and a Global Geopark. The summit's Baengnokdam crater lake creates a mystical scene, and the mountain's vertical range from subtropical to subarctic vegetation makes it ecologically important. Trails include Seongpanak, Gwaneumsa, and Yeongsil. Free admission. About 40 minutes by bus from the city to the Seongpanak trailhead.

Travel Tips

A round trip to Baengnokdam takes 8-10 hours and entry has cutoff times - always check before setting out. Weather changes fast, so bring a windbreaker.
