Galle Fort
First built by the Portuguese in 1588 and expanded by the Dutch in 1649, Galle Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Inside its 36 hectares of ramparts, churches, mosques, temples, museums, boutique hotels, and cafes coexist in a living heritage site. Walking the walls while watching Indian Ocean waves and sunsets is the highlight of any visit. Free admission. About 2-3 hours by train from Colombo, then a 10-minute walk from Galle Station.
