Overview
Al-Attarine Madrasa is a 14th-century Islamic college founded in 1325 by Marinid sultan Abu Said Uthman II, tucked into the spice-selling Attarine souk. Compact in size but dazzling in detail, it gathers the essence of Marinid architecture - polychrome zellige tile, fine stucco muqarnas, and meticulously carved cedarwood ceilings - around a small courtyard. From the rooftop you can look across to the neighboring Karaouine Mosque and university, with sweeping views of the medina. Admission MAD 20. Next to the Karaouine University.
Opening Hours
Daily 09:00-18:00 (closed during prayer times)
Travel Tips
Non-Muslims can't enter the Karaouine Mosque, but Al-Attarine's roof offers a peek into its courtyard. It sits on the way to Chouara Tannery for an easy combination.
