Overview
Fundadores Park sits where the north end of 5th Avenue meets the Caribbean, an iconic meeting place in Playa del Carmen. The towering 'El Portal Maya' sculpture is a popular photo spot, and Maya 'Voladores' (flying men) ceremonial performances take place around 5:30 PM most evenings. Four dancers descend upside-down from a 30m pole, spinning in a Maya ritual recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage - free to watch and perfect to enjoy with sunset. The ferry dock to Cozumel is right next door, making it a great stop while waiting. Free. North end of 5th Avenue.
Opening Hours
24 hours (Voladores around 17:30)
Travel Tips
The Voladores show (around 17:30 daily) is free but tipping (MXN 50-100) is customary. Pair it with sunset.
