Overview
The cathedral traces back to the city's first church, built in 1539, but the neoclassical structure seen today was completed between 1807 and 1823. As the primatial seat of Colombia's Catholic Church, it holds the remains of city founder Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada alongside an ornate wooden altar and pipe organ. Admission is free; visitors are expected to remain quiet outside of Mass times. It's a five-minute walk from the Museo del Oro TransMilenio station, easily paired with Plaza de Bolívar.
