Overview
Chorro de Quevedo is a small square in La Candelaria traditionally said to mark the spot where conquistador Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada founded Bogotá in 1538. It takes its name from a fountain installed in 1832 by Augustinian priest Father Quevedo, though the original fountain was destroyed in 1896 when a collapsing bridge damaged its pipes; it was rebuilt in 1969. Today the plaza is a beloved, free-spirited meeting point for street performers and university students. Entry is free - take the TransMilenio to Museo del Oro station and walk roughly 10 minutes uphill to reach it.
