Overview

Located north of Prague's Old Town, Josefov has been home to a Jewish community since the 13th century and is one of Europe's best-preserved Jewish quarters. The Old-New Synagogue (Europe's oldest active synagogue, dating to 1270) and five other synagogues form the Jewish Museum network. The Old Jewish Cemetery contains over 12,000 tombstones layered upon one another, creating a hauntingly unique atmosphere. Franz Kafka's birthplace is also in this district. Combined ticket about CZK 350 (EUR 14). 3-minute walk from Metro Staroměstská (Line A).

Travel Tips

A combined ticket covers all synagogues and the cemetery efficiently. Most sites close on Saturdays (Shabbat), so plan accordingly.
