Overview
Founded in 1143, this Premonstratensian monastery sits on a hill west of Prague Castle. Its main draw is the Strahov Library, comprising the Theological and Philosophical Halls with elaborate frescoed ceilings and around 200,000 historic volumes (visitors view the halls from the doorway rather than entering). The Cabinet of Curiosities displays taxidermy and oddities collected by the monks. The monastery courtyard offers views over Prague's red rooftops, and the on-site brewery serves its own monastery beer.
