Overview
Completed in 1881 but destroyed by fire shortly after, this theatre was rebuilt by 1883 through spontaneous public fundraising by the Czech nation. Inscribed with the motto "Národ sobě" ("The Nation to Itself"), it stands as a symbol of Czech national identity and is nicknamed the "Golden Chapel" for its gilded roof ornaments. It hosts opera, ballet, and drama, and offers a guided tour showcasing its opulent auditorium and ceiling paintings.
