Overview
After WWII destroyed over 90% of Rovaniemi, the great Finnish architect Alvar Aalto designed the 1944 reconstruction plan — viewed from above, the streets form the shape of a reindeer's head and antlers. The Town Hall, Library, and Lappia concert hall surround the square, all Aalto modernist masterpieces. His signature organic curves and birch interiors are striking, and the council chamber inside the Town Hall is accessible by guided tour. Square free; town hall guided tour about EUR 8. Located in the city center.
Opening Hours
Square: 24 hours; Town Hall/Library: weekdays 09:00-19:00.
