Overview
Completed in 1965, Rovaniemi Library is one of the key buildings in Alvar Aalto's 'reindeer antler' city plan, its fan-shaped floor plan clearly visible from above. Aalto's signature organic curves and a ceiling designed to draw daylight deep into the reading rooms define the interior. As the largest public library in Lapland, it holds an extensive collection including Sami culture and Arctic research materials. Together with Aalto Square and the Town Hall, it's a core stop on any Rovaniemi modernist architecture tour.
