Overview
Part museum, part science center, Arktikum traces the nature and culture of Lapland and the wider Arctic, set within a striking modern building anchored by a 172-meter glass tunnel. Interactive exhibits cover Sami culture, Arctic wildlife, and the science behind the aurora. The glass roof opens up to the polar sky, and the northern lights sometimes appear directly above in winter. Displays also tell the story of Rovaniemi's wartime destruction and postwar rebuilding.
Opening Hours
10:00-18:00 (December-January 10:00-17:00; closed Mondays in some seasons)
Travel Tips
During aurora season (September-March), you can pair the exhibits with a real chance of seeing the lights. Combine the visit with a walk along the Ounasjoki river.
