Overview
Built as part of Alvar Aalto's postwar reconstruction plan, Rovaniemi City Hall is a core building of Aalto Square. In front stands 'Vuorten synty' (The Birth of the Mountains), a sculpture by Finnish artist Kalervo Kallio, blending architecture and public art. The building embodies Aalto's vision for rebuilding a city devastated by the Lapland War, and it still functions today as the city's actual administrative seat.
