Overview
Located on the shore of Lake Norvajärvi outside Rovaniemi, this WWII German military cemetery was established in 1963 by the German War Graves Commission (VDK). About 2,530 German soldiers who died across Lapland are buried here, and the mausoleum-style memorial set in pine forest by the quiet lake makes a striking impression. It offers a place to reflect on the painful shared history of the Lapland War (1944-1945) between Finland and Germany, its peaceful natural setting leaving a lasting impact on visitors.
