Overview
Known as 'France's mural capital,' Lyon features over 100 large trompe-l'œil murals scattered across the city. The most famous are 'Mur des Canuts' in Croix-Rousse (1,200㎡, one of Europe's largest) and the Saône-side 'Fresque des Lyonnais,' which depicts 30 famous Lyonnais — including Saint-Exupéry, Paul Bocuse, and the Lumière brothers — painted to look like real building inhabitants. Up close, the detail is astonishing. The Croix-Rousse district was the 19th-century silk-weavers' quarter, and its steep alleys and cafes have a bohemian feel. Free to visit. 10-minute walk from Croix-Rousse (Metro C) or Hôtel de Ville stations.
Opening Hours
Open 24 hours (outdoor murals)
