Overview
Fitzroy Island is a tropical island about 45 minutes by fast ferry from Cairns, with 94% of the island protected as a national park within the Great Barrier Reef. Rich coral reefs allow snorkeling directly from the beach, and rainforest hiking trails like the Secret Garden Trail and Lighthouse Trail lead to the island's summit. A sea turtle rehabilitation centre lets visitors observe injured turtles recovering. Return ferry AUD 89. Departs Cairns Reef Fleet Terminal.
