Overview
The Kuranda Scenic Railway covers 34 km from Cairns to the rainforest village of Kuranda in about 1 hour 45 minutes. Opened in 1891, it passes through 15 tunnels and over 37 bridges, with views of Barron Falls and Stoney Creek Falls from the carriage windows. In Kuranda village, enjoy Aboriginal cultural experiences, the Butterfly Sanctuary, and the Rainforest Markets. For the return, take the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway for a perfect round trip. One way about AUD 50; Skyrail combo about AUD 120. Departs from Cairns Central Station.
