Overview
Kitchener's Island (Aswan Botanical Garden) is a small island beside Elephantine, transformed into a botanical garden in the 19th century when British Lord Kitchener planted exotic specimens brought back from Nubian campaigns. More than 400 species - palms, bougainvillea, spice trees from India, Asia, and across Africa - now thrive here amid constant birdsong. Reach it by felucca and wander the shaded paths for a cool escape from the city heat. Admission EGP 70. About 10 minutes by felucca from Aswan Corniche.
Opening Hours
Daily 08:00-17:00
Travel Tips
A 1-hour felucca rental that includes the island visit pairs well with the sunset - great value. Bring a cold drink.
