Overview
Qubbet el-Hawa ('Dome of the Wind') is a cliffside necropolis on Aswan's west bank for nobles of the Old and Middle Kingdoms, with over 80 numbered tombs, many still unexcavated. The oldest belongs to Harkhuf from the 6th Dynasty (2345-2181 BC), while the tomb of Sarenput II (No. 31) is considered the finest and best preserved. A dome atop the hill, built for a local Islamic sheikh, gave the site its name. The climb up is steep, but the payoff is a sweeping view over the Nile and Elephantine Island. Admission is around EGP 25-50 (subject to change). Cross the Nile by boat from the Corniche, then walk up.
