Atocha Railway Station

아르간수엘라

Overview

The original 1892 station building was repurposed in a 1992 renovation by architect Rafael Moneo: rail functions moved to a new building, while the old iron-framed shed became an indoor garden housing around 7,000 tropical plants, including palm trees. The garden is free to visit, and Atocha is the departure point for AVE high-speed trains and regional lines serving Madrid. A memorial to the victims of the 2004 Madrid train bombings stands nearby. It connects directly to Atocha Renfe metro station (Line 1).

Even without a train ticket, it's a pleasant spot to stroll the garden and relax at a café. Turtles live in the pond, making it fun for kids too.
